Thomas Fenton Reports:

-We have some important television dates, the launch of AEW on TNT will be Wednesday, October 2nd. It has been heavily speculated the show will be called Wednesday Night Dynamite, and legal documents have been filed for the name. WWE Smackdown will make its move to FOX two days later on Friday October 4th, this was a date that went back and forth based on schedules.

-Smackdown will have a completely revamped looked moving into the fall and a different roster. While Vince does not like the idea of a draft or the term “draft”, a more organized shake up or whatever it will be called is likely happening just after Summerslam. Believe it or not, WWE had some Summerslam plans already set and are going to let Paul Heyman and Erich Bischoff get acclimated to their respected teams and the talent that will be working on their shows. For those that were asking at this time I do not have a ton of answers as to why Triple H is not running all of the shows and slowly moving forward into the eventual role, other than maybe Vince McMahon will oversee operations and not be as hands-on as he always was, or rely on other people, time will tell.

Thanks for watching!Visit Website

-I’m told Heyman had a major say of the show produced and the future moving forward of him running RAW. Obviously, Heyman is very liked backstage by much of the talent and younger writers. Heyman has been contributing to some of WWE’s bigger storylines and talent over the last few years and is very trusted with what new fans are looking for. Let’s not forget Heyman would not be taking this position if everything he came up with was simply tossed aside by Vince, that simply won’t be the case. Many thought the opposite with the Eric hired as he doesn’t follow wrestling trends and many feel if he is not working with a younger writing team it may be a challenge. One of the important things to note is we do not know these defined roles.  The assumption can be made Eric will likely be working closely with Bruce Prichard, however, that’s yet to be determined. For those wondering the mentality behind the positions and the hires, one of the thoughts from a worker I spoke with was that Vince brought on the 2 guys he went to war with and that have decades of wrestling knowledge. He knows that if he has to go to war he wants them on his side and not against him. I’m also told these are not the only 2 major wrestling powers WWE tried to sign. It will be interesting how everything unfolds on television and backstage with both programs.

Thanks for watching!Visit Website
Thanks for watching!Visit Website

-Was the decision to put Heyman and Bischoff in charge made after the ticket demand from AEW? Was the decision made based on recent attendance? (14k for 3 shows in The Pacific North and only 9k paid is scary) Recent ratings? (hitting at or below 2 million viewers) I’m not sure if it was one exact thing or a combination of multiple results. The Eric hire came to a shock to many and was a deal that had to all of occurred in the last few weeks, while the Heyman hire was something speculated for a long time.

Thomas’s Take: I think it is important to look at the experience and knowledge that is being brought on. The real question is can Eric catch up with wrestling in 2019 or is he going to be too behind the times? Heyman didn’t take a head job like this if he didn’t think he could run it in his vision. The biggest question to me is how do the pillars fall and the full leadership structure.

I expect completely different shows in the fall with completely different rosters of talent and a completely different look. I could also see 205 Live going away moving into the fall and the roster being moved to various shows.

Dan Hardy Explains Thiago Santos’ Path To Victory Over Jon Jones • MMA News

Thiago Santos is set for the biggest fight of his career against Jon Jones in the main event of UFC 239. There, the Brazilian is set to fight for UFC gold for the first time of his career.

Yet, winning the fight will not be easy. Jones has never lost a fight, he was DQ’d in his only ‘loss’ on his record. But, Santos believes he can knock out Jones, and according to Dan Hardy, he believes the Brazilian just needs to be himself. And, he can’t fall for Jon Jones’ traps.

“The obvious one is he has to be himself,” Dan Hardy said on The MMA Hour (as transcribed by BJPENN.com). “He has to not fall into that Jon Jones voodoo that everyone seems to get caught in. We saw it so much in [Jones’] last fights against [Anthony] Smith and [Alexander] Gustafsson. Guys fall into this trap where they never get started. He stifles every attack with just a poke or a prod or a feint. The danger for Thiago Santos is that if he gets caught in that with him, he’ll be stuck there for 25 minutes — or less, obviously.

“[Santos] needs to create opportunities, he needs to stay mobile and give Jon Jones a black face and not recognize him as the greatest fighter on the planet. He needs to attack him, he needs to damage him.”

It is easier said than done, as no one has been able to do that against Jones. But, as many say, Thiago Santos is a wildcard in this fight and could very well catch the champion.

Backstage News On AEW And Their TV, WWE Trying To Lock Superstars In Contracts

The following article is part of our premium news section. If you’re interested in this news and you’re not a premium subscriber, why not give it a try? We put out breaking premium news and backstage news on a frequent basis that we can 100% confirm. If you ARE a premium member, welcome back! Thanks for helping us do what we do!

It has been wildly speculated since AEW and Turner Media officially announced weekly TV as to what day of the TV show would be on. Orginally trademarks for “Tuesday Night Dynamite” were acquired even before the deal was closed with Turner. This past week trademarks for “Wednesday Night Dynamite” were revealed, with that stated AEW and Turner will need to make the final call on a day if it has not been made already within the next week or so. AEW has been looking at venues for their live TV program and doing their research and background so write their schedule, cities, and venues for the fall. Fyter Fest is live from Daytona next Saturdayand streaming for free if you sign up for BR Live.

There is still a few top Impact names that are looking to get out of their current deals. Talent not only understands the dynamic of the wrestling landscape and the potential opportunity, however, talent has asked for a direction or plan for characters and storylines and many do not seem to have answers. While companies like WWE and AEW would like some talent and is interested, neither are willing to risk any type of a tampering lawsuit and will just wait to see if others are granted their release. The feeling amongst many at this point is they are just holding pattern until their deals are up. The interesting point here is even with a lack of visibility to the product and paid TV deal, IMPACT continues to try to offer bigger money to male talent that have names outside the company.

Thanks for watching!Visit Website

As we have seen over the last week and we mentioned a month or so ago the WWE pushed to lock up talent in late June and early July has begun. Over a dozen talent over the last 3 weeks have been offered new deals. Most of the new deals yes carry a pay increase, most start at a 5 year term. WWE was focused on and will continue to focus on resigning talent who’s deals expire in the next year. There was some speculation of WWE tryng to play hardball with the new contracts and using the angle of sign owner this much money won’t be there again, that said I’m told those deals were still there at the end even after they were turned down the first time. With Mike,Maria, and Mojo all signing last week WWE has moved forward with their next set of talent to resign. At the time of writting I have no update on Gallows and Anderson, the last I was told is they were not resigned however that was prior to last Monday’s RAW.

There was some “talk” last week on the availability of Davey Boy Smith Jr. Harry Smith after his NJPW deal expired. He is currently under an MLW contract that has multiple years remaining on the deal. For Smith to work anywhere in the states MLW has the first right of refusal and priority on dates. When I have spoken with Smith in the past he has always talked very highly on how well MLW takes care of him and how much he likes working there. For those asking if he could work for AEW, MLW would have to sign off on and agree to similar to other talent doing both. More importantly however Smith would have to want to go there and AEW want him as well.

Jon Jones Wants To Help Robert Whittaker Train For Israel Adesanya Fight • MMA News

It is clear Jon Jones and Israel Adesanya do not like each other. The two have had a feud for a while now, but “The Last Stylebender” has said he doesn’t want to fight Jones, yet. Rather he needs time to add more weight, which “Bones” says is an excuse to not fight him.

Since a fight seems unlikely, Jon Jones is now rooting for Robert Whittaker to beat Adesanya, where speculation is they will main event UFC 243.

“I got nothing but respect for him,” Jones said of Whittaker on “Now or Never” on ESPN. “He seems like a stand-up guy and I can’t wait to see him stomp a mudhole in Adesanya.”

Whittaker then posted to social media of the clip saying, “nothing but respect mate! @jonnybones.” There, Jones saw his post and responded offering to help train with Whittaker for his upcoming fight.

“Just keeping it real, would be honored to train with you leading up to your fight,” he said. “Let’s get you more than ready.”

Jon Jones is set for his own fight on July 6 against Thiago Santos at UFC 239. And, whether or not the two will actually train together is unknown, but the offer is out there.

Luke Rockhold Not Impressed By Anthony Smith’s Win Over Alexander Gustafsson • MMA News

Anthony Smith picked up the biggest win of his career at UFC Stockholm. There, he silenced the Swedish crowd by submitting Alexander Gustafsson. Although it was a huge win for the American, Luke Rockhold was not impressed by it as he believes Gustafsson did not show up to fight.

“It looked like he retired before that fight started, a long time before,” Luke Rockhold told Submission Radio, speaking of Alexander Gustafsson (transcript via MMA Fighting). “So, I don’t know where his head’s at. His head wasn’t there, he had a family and he just found an easy exit in Stockholm and found a way out in the fight obviously.

“He had a great career, put up some amazing fights, pushed DC to a split decision and Jon Jones to a split decision. The guy made his mark. Good for him, good for him. But he didn’t come to fight that night, I’ll tell you that.

“My feelings have not changed whatsoever. Gus didn’t come to fight. Anybody who has any time for the sport could see that he didn’t do a damn thing in that fight and he found a way out when the opportunity presented itself. It was an easy exit for him. So, that’s that. Obviously, the guy can fight. He could fight, but he just doesn’t want it anymore.”

Anthony Smith and Luke Rockhold have gone back-and-forth with trash talk for months now with neither being impressed of each other’s work.

Thiago Santos Says ‘Everyone Gets Knocked Out One Day’ And UFC 239 Will Be Jon Jones’ Day • MMA News

Thiago Santos is set to fight for a UFC title for the first time in his career. At UFC 239, in the main event, the Brazilian will challenge one of the greatest fighters to ever do it in Jon Jones. Although Jones is the clear -600 favorite, Santos likes his chances.

There is no question on how Thiago Santos will win this fight, and it is to knock out Jones. Although no one has done that, the Brazilian believes July 6 will be his day.

“I think everybody loses one day,” Santos said to ESPN (as transcribed by BJPENN.com). Everybody gets knocked out one day and July 6 will be his day.”

But, even though he believes Jones will be knocked out, he is not needing it to be the first round like many think. Rather, he wants to fight a complete fight, even if that means going five rounds and KO’ing him late.

“Yes, of course, this [is] my style. No problem, no problem. I’m prepared for five rounds no problem. Always, doesn’t matter. But I will try [to knock him out] first or second, third, doesn’t matter [which] round. I will try to do it.”

If it does happen, it would be one of the biggest upsets to happen in UFC history.

Sports Illustrated broke the news today that Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff have been named as Executive Producers of Raw and Smackdown Live. Paul Heyman will be in charge of Monday Night Raw while Bischoff will be in charge of Smackdown Live. It’s important to note that they are behind the scenes leaders, this is NOT an on air role.  (Though that can always become an additional role they take on in the future.)  For those who follow the behind the scenes politics in WWE know that this is much akin to hell freezing over.  These two are creative geniuses and will hopefully help to pull Raw and Smackdown out of their deep ratings slump.

Kamaru Usman Says Colby Covington ‘Messed Up’ Title Shot • MMA News

Colby Covington’s next fight will not be for the belt after all. The former interim welterweight champion was waiting for a title shot but instead has a different fight. At UFC Newark on August 3, Covington will take on Robbie Lawler in the main event.

When welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman heard the news, he was thoroughly disappointed. The Covington fight was one he wanted for a long time. And instead may not get it, especially if “Chaos” loses.

“I literally smacked my head like this kid f***s it up again, again. I said from the start, this was going to be his fight to mess up and that is exactly (why) he did what he just did. Those gambling debts might have caught up to him. You never know the backstory of what is going on,” Kamaru Usman said to TMZ Sports. (as transcribed by BJPENN.com). “Debts might have caught up to him. He hasn’t fought for a long time trying to sit out and be a pest to not just to me but to Woodley at some point and also to Dana White at some point.

“You sat out for a long time and now you are kind of reaping what you sold. At the end of the day, this is not me saying oh, I don’t want to fight him. I definitely want to fight him,” he continued. “People might say well you are ducking Colby Covington, his three fans who continuously try to pester me every day. There is no one right now in the world that I would love to punch more or hurt more than him. Or Ben Askren. Either one I don’t really care it doesn’t matter. It just goes to show you who is in power and it’s not him.”

Colby Covington could still get the next title shot if he beats Lawler. But, Usman isn’t counting on that and instead is mad the former interim champion blew his shot at the title.

CM Punk Files Lawsuit Against Colt Cabana

CM Punk Files Lawsuit Against Colt Cabana

According to Mike Johnson at Pro Wrestling Insider, CM Punk is filing suit against Colt Cabana in response to Cabana’s existing Lawsuit.

From PWI, “Colten alleged that Brooks promised him that he would be covered financially during the Amann lawsuit, only to have to later hire his own attorney after he and Brooks had a personal falling out. Colton has been attempting to claim he and Brooks had a verbal contract, arguing that Brooks should reimburse Colton for legal fees he incurred after Brooks’ legal team no longer handled Colton’s side of the lawsuit”

The article further elaborates, “in his counter-suit, Brooks stated that he spent over $1.2 million on legal bills over the two-year period where the Loeb Firm defended himself and Colton against Dr. Chris Amann’s allegations. The Amann case went to court with the jury ruling unanimously in Colton and Brooks’ favor. Amann received zero damages.”

Thanks for watching!Visit Website

“Brooks counter-suit alleges Colton did not contribute anything towards their ‘attorney’s fees and expenses incurred’ in the Amann legal battle and that Colton ‘refused to contribute monies’ towards the case, noting, ‘Colton’s unjust retention of the benefits of receiving a high-quality professional legal defense through the Loeb firm paid for solely by Brooks without any reimbursement of Brooks violated fundamental principles of justice, equality, and good conscience.”

Regarding Colt’s podcast, “The Art of Wrestling, “Brooks’ lawsuit noted that Colton makes money from his Art of Wrestling series through advertisements and sponsors, YouTube impressions, and through the sale of merchandise Colton promotes on the podcast. It notes that within five days of the November 2014 CM Punk episode, that episode was streamed or downloaded 1.5 million times, the largest audience ever for that podcast series. Within a week, that number was up to three million. The implication is that despite the episode being the most financially successful podcast episode ever for Colton, he did not offer any money towards their legal defense.”

There is a ton more information from Mike Johnson’s article at PWI. “PWInsider.com is in the process of exploring over 200 pages of legal filings in the Colton vs Brooks lawsuit that were filed over the last four weeks, including Punk’s responses to Cabana’s allegations.”

I Did Not Earn Respect in ONE Championship • MMA News

I Did Not Earn Respect in ONE Championship • MMA News

Eddie
Alvarez wants to earn your respect all over again. And until that happens, all
the attention being placed on him during his new sting in ONE Championship is
unwarranted.

In Eddie Alvarez’s ONE Championship debut in March, he suffered a first-round TKO loss to Timofey Nastyuhkhin in the first round of a tournament Eddie Alvarez was widely expected to win. Many eyes were on Eddie Alvarez heading into that debut, and he believes that attention was misplaced:

“I didn’t like the immediate attention I was getting,” Alvarez told ESPN this week. “I felt like it was undeserved. I didn’t get any wins under that banner. I like going into promotions kind of playing the underdog and earning my respect. So I feel like maybe that’s why I subconsciously lose my debuts in promotions, just so I can have to fight for something.

“I
feel like respect is earned. It’s undeserved until you go somewhere and
actually start beating guys and become the champion. I felt like there was
already a lot of unearned respect there. “

One thing Eddie Alvarez does believe he deserves, though, is the money he is getting in a contract he alleges to be worth eight figures. For that, you will hear no argument from him, as he went on to explain why he deserves such a big contract despite the fact that he had not earned a win in the promotion when he signed the deal:

“You’re not paying me for a fight. You’re
paying me for 16 years of doing what I’ve done,” Alvarez asserted. “So I never
look at it like a here-and-now thing. I don’t get paid for my fights, for what
I do for 15 minutes inside the cage. I get paid for being a lifelong martial
artist, for doing this for 20 years of my life. That’s why I’m paid.”

Do
you believe Eddie Alvarez deserves both the respect and money he is receiving
in ONE Championship prior to his first victory?

“It’s Your F**king Fault” • MMA News

Marlon Vera and Sean O’Malley’s war of words continued to heat up earlier this week, this time with Marlon Vera appearing on The Ariel Helwani MMA Show to render his unfiltered thoughts on his would-be UFC 239 opponent Sean O’Malley after O’Malley was forced off of the card after traces of Ostarine was found in his system.

USADA believes that what appeared in the test were residuals from a past ingestion for which O’Malley was already disciplined for. Sean O’Malley has always maintained that the positive test result was due to a tainted supplement, which USADA backed in an April statement on the case, but Marlon Vera is not hearing anything of it, as you will soon discover in the following harsh message to O’Malley and all other positive-testers:

“Let’s be real. If you test positive, you fucked up,” Vera said bluntly. “Even if it was by accident or you took a supplement, there’s a phone number you can call. You can call to USADA and ask, ‘Hey, can you check this out?’ And they will tell you, look, that’s certificated. It’s all good. Or the ingredients look fine, but it’s not certificated. It’s easy.

“If
you test positive, it’s your fuckin’ fault. You’re dumb. Go fuck yourself. You
fucked up.”

To
ensure that his message went directly to its intended target, he was sure to
refer specifically to Sean O’Malley after making an analogy to drive his point
home:

“If you’re driving and you kill somebody, it’s your fault. You go to jail,” Vera said. “So fuck him.”

There
is currently no word yet on if Vera will remain on the UFC 239 card, nor is
there an update on when Sean O’Malley will return to competition.

Do
you believe Marlon Vera is being too harsh on Sean O’Malley?

Gunnar Nelson vs. Thiago Alves Announced for UFC on ESPN+ 18 • MMA News

The UFC has announced a welterweight bout for UFC on ESPN+ 18 scheduled for September 28, with Gunnar Nelson takes on Thiago Alves.

Gunnar
Nelson (17-4-1) has lost two of his last three bouts, with the first of the
losses coming to Santiago Ponzinibbio in 2017 and the second loss coming at the
hands of Leon Edwards in a split-decision loss in March. Nelson’s last victory
was over Alex Oliveira at UFC 231 via submission, making it 13 total submission
victories for Nelson. Nelson will have his work cut out for him with Thiago
Alves, who has only been submitted four times in his MMA career.

Thiago
Alves (23-14) is also coming off a loss, with his most recent defeat coming to Laureano
Staropoli at 237 last month. Alves has lost three of his last four fights,
falling to Curtis Millender and Alexey Kunchenko. Even his lone victory in his
last four against Max Griffin was a controversial decision victory. A victory
for the 35-year-old over Gunnar Nelson will affirm that Alves is still more
than capable of competing at a high level.

UFC
on ESPN+ 18 takes place from the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark and will
air exclusively on ESPN+.  No other bouts
have been announced for the card yet.

Who
do you predict will win this welterweight bout? Gunnar Nelson or Thiago Alves?

UFC Lightweight Desmond Green Charged With DUI Manslaughter In Fatal Crash • MMA News

The investigation involving UFC lightweight Desmond Green has come to a conclusion. And things are not looking good for the New York-born fighter.

According to the Sun Sentinel, Green is being held on being held in Broward County Jail today on bonds totaling $194,000 as revealed by court records. Green was charged with a lengthy list of 19 charges including DUI manslaughter for an August 2018 accident that killed 67-year-old Emelina Morfa and 76-year-old Emma Suarez Hernandez.

The fatal crash occurred around 6 a.m on Florida Interstate 75 in Pembroke Pines, Florida, last August. Green lost control of his 2011 Dodge Durango and hit a tractor driven by 51-year-old Juan Gomez. The collision caused a rapid chain reaction. Morfa and Suarez Hernandez were killed when the 2007 Toyota Yaris they were riding in was hit. The driver of the Toyota Yaris, 65-year-old Mily Vita-Vega, and her passenger, 58-year-old, Teresa Jaramillo, were both seriously hurt. They were taken to Memorial Hospital, where they underwent surgery according to the report.

Concerning Circumstances

Green only suffered minor injuries in the crash. But witnesses reported that he was seen throwing a metal object over a concrete highway wall. The object was a metal grinder containing marijuana according to his arrest records. Green’s vehicle was searched, and the investigation unearthed a baggie containing cocaine residue. Green reportedly slurred his words and smelled like he had been drinking. Tests later revealed he was under the influence of alcohol and illegal drugs.

The arrest report stated, “Green’s normal faculties were impaired by alcoholic beverages and/or controlled substance at the time the crash occurred.” He was not wearing a seat belt and was driving on a suspended license, his second such offense.

Artem Lobov Shares Conor McGregor’s Feedback on BKFC 6 Victory • MMA News

This past weekend at Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship 6, Artem Lobov pulled off an upset that left many a viewer stunned and speechless when he defeated Paulie Malignaggi in a bare-knuckle boxing match. One notable person who seems fit this description is “The Notorious” Conor McGregor, who indirectly caused this fight to materialize due to his feud with Malignaggi and his close friendship with Artem Lobov.

After Lobov’s hand was raised after weeks of disrespect, trash talk, slapping, and spitting leading up to the fight, Lobov has remained humble in victory and McGregor has remained quiet about the fight. And while Conor McGregor has not shared his thoughts on social media, he did share them with Artem Lobov, whom McGregor believes shined in his victory (Transcript via MMA Fighting):

“I spoke to Conor. He said that was a good performance. I dominated the fight. I pressed the action all the time and he said it was a very good performance and a great win for me,” Lobov said on Monday’s installment of The MMA Hour.

What began as a feud between Conor McGregor and Paulie Malignaggi later transitioned to a fight that carried some authentic bad blood of its own. So congratulations and pats on the back from Conor McGregor are reaffirming to Lobov, but nothing can replace getting a win in a bout that Lobov felt he needed to win:

“To
me, a fight is a fight, I just want to win it no matter what, but this one of
course was a lot more personal,” Lobov told the MMA Hour on Monday. “This was
an emotional build-up and a win was a must here. So it was a very important
win. It was definitely not my favorite performance, definitely not my best
performance or most exciting fighting but it was a must win.

“I
couldn’t have lost here. No way and I didn’t and I brought the win home and
that’s the only thing that matters now.”

Do
you agree with Conor McGregor’s assessment of Artem Lobov’s performance at BKFC
6?

Monday Night Raw Results 6/25/19

Monday Night Raw Results 6/25/19

We start in the ring with WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins to a pop. He starts talking about Corbin and Stomping Grounds, but the music interrupts and out comes Rollins’ girlfriend, RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch. Fans also cheer for The Man. Rollins jokes with her about interrupting him. Rollins says he’s got to give Corbin some credit because Corbin knew he couldn’t beat him by himself, he knew he would have to get a referee like Lacey Evans. However, he wasn’t smart enough to realize that Rollins has the best back-up on the planet. Fans pop and chant Becky’s name again. Becky says it pays to be The Man’s man. Becky goes on and says they proved individually last night why they are the champions of their divisions. Becky says Lacey had nothing when it came time to fight last night, and then she came out trying to steal a title for someone else, but not on her watch. Corbin’s music hits to interrupt.

We don’t get Corbin but Evans attacks Lynch from behind and beats her down. Rollins eventually breaks them up and Becky shoves him. Rollins looks surprised. Becky gets past Rollins and unloads on Evans in the corner. Corbin hits the ring but Rollins meets him and they brawl. Rollins nails a Slingblade. Lynch continues unloading on Evans and hits a Bexploder. Evans retreats from the ring, as does Corbin. Corbin grabs a mic and screams about Rollins needing Becky saving him again. Corbin says Rollins should put his title on Becky, fly home and put on an apron because Becky is taking care of his business. Evans threatens to put hands on Rollins again. Corbin says everyone knows he would be champion right now if it weren’t for Lynch last night. Corbin says he picked Evans because she is the only real woman around here and he’d pick Evans for his partner anywhere. Evans accepts and proposes it for Extreme Rules. Lynch accepts and says under one condition – when they lose, they get no more chances to get in the ring with Lynch and Rollins. This leads to Rollins and Lynch accepting another stipulation the champions put their titles on the line. Winners take all.

AJ reminds them they lost a match last week. Jon Jones Likens Thiago Santos to His Fiancée. • MMA News

Jon
Jones is no more worried about Thiago Santos’ knockout power than he is that of
his fiancée.

At UFC 239 Jon Jones will defend his light heavyweight championship against the dangerous Thiago Santos. The story leading up the fight is that with the power Santos possesses in his limbs could be the key to someone finally defeating Jon Jones. Though this might be an area of concern for some fans and betters of Jon Jones come July 6, it isn’t to the man himself, who believes that power is universal; execution is not:

“No, I’m not worried about him at all,” Jones said in an appearance on The Ariel Helwani MMA Show on Monday. “I feel like my fiancée’s strong enough to knock me out if I put my hands behind my back and let her punch me right in the chin. A lot of people hit hard. Everybody has the power to knock out anybody. My manager can knock me out if I let him punch me in the face. It’s about being smart enough to land that punch.”

Of
course one glaring difference between Thiago Santos and Jon Jones’s fiancée is
that unlike his fiancée, Santos has 15 wins by knockout. But Jones maintains
that it isn’t the heavy hitters like Quinton Jackson, Glover Teixeira, Vitor
Belfort he has fought in the past that concern him, it is those who can test
his fight psychology:

“Everyone
hits hard,” Jones reiterated. “The fighters that concern me the most are the
intelligent fighters, the guys who can set up those punches or set up a solid
game plan. So I’m not too worried about Thiago. I’ve fought many guys with big
muscles and big knockout power. I started doing that at 23 years old.

“So,
no, I’m not worried about anything. I’ve just got to go out there, have faith
in my abilities, and my team that’s around me, my intelligence towards the
game, and everything else will fall into place.”

Do
you believe Jon Jones should be worried about Thiago Santos’s knockout power?

I’ll Teach Israel Adesanya ‘Whole Different World Of Hurt’ • MMA News

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is clearly looking to make up for lost time.

A host of performance-enhancing drug issues left him on the sidelines from July 2017 to December 2018. The controversial MMA legend regained the title by dominating Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232. He then defended the belt against Anthony Smith at March’s UFC 235, albeit in a unanimous decision this time around.

“Bones” is now scheduled to face rising contender Thiago Santos in the main event of July 6’s UFC 239 from Las Vegas. The bout will complete a rarely-seen trio of title fights in just over six months. But Jones won’t stop there. He revealed on “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show” today that he’s looking to fight once again in December and then three more times in 2020. As to whom he will fight in those bouts, longtime rival Daniel Cormier is an obvious choice, but not one that excites Jones.

The dominant star has been linked to a fight with current UFC interim middleweight champion Israel Adesanya as well. ‘The Last Stylebender’ will take on unified middleweight champion Robert Whittaker in Australia, reportedly at October’s UFC 243 from Melbourne. If the Nigerian titleholder can get past Whittaker and defend the title a few times, a super fight with Jones could become a very intriguing possibility.

Running Beef With Adesanya

The two even have a pre-installed backstory thanks to their previous social media exchanges. But Jones insists he doesn’t have any real issue with Adesanya. He was taken aback by Adesanya’s “GOAT killing” callout, something he previously responded to and revisited today:

“I really don’t, I really don’t. I think the worst thing I ever said about the kid was that he’s looking promising and I would assume that people would start entertaining that fight soon and he’ll come up and challenge me. That’s all I said about him. I think he said something about killing one GOAT in Anderson Silva and now trying to kill me or some shit like that. The biggest difference is that I’m 31 years old and I feel like I’m still reaching my prime. If you look back throughout a lot of my fights, you hear guys who’ve fought say, ‘Jon is a lot stronger than he looks.’”

Too Frail To Grapple?

Based on that, Jones doesn’t think Adesanya has anywhere near the skills necessary to contend with him. He told Helwani that ‘The Last Stylebender’ is simply too skinny and frail to fight him on the mat. It would not be a close fight due to that dynamic, Jones insisted:

“Israel is light in the ass. He’s light. He’s skinny, he’s skinny. I put my hands on him and teach him a whole different world of hurt. For him to be so frail and to not have a ground game. It’s like bro, you don’t wanna do it. And then to talk about my stand-up against Anthony Smith, with his face all bubbled up against a short wrestler who did that to him, it was just hilarious. I barely get touched in my fights. So for Israel to talk about his striking skills like they’re so far ahead of mine, it’s hilarious. Just to sum up what I think about Israel, I think he’s a little too light in the ass, needs to eat some more jerk chicken and come holler at me.”

Adesanya previously claimed Jones’ time would come online, something ‘Bones’ found to be an excuse. It was also an admission of defeat in Jones’ eyes:

“Let me tell you what that means. ‘I’m a bitch, I can’t beat Jon.’ What he basically said, and he just worded it how he wanted to was, ‘I cannot beat Jon.’ Anything else he said outside of that does not matter.”

Finally, Jones had a short-yet-sweet response when Helwani asked him if he would fight Adesanya down the road:

“He knows where I’ll be.”

Does Israel Adesanya have a chance against the ultra-dangerous Jones if they fought?

Colby Covington Says Kamaru Usman Is Looking For Easier Matchups

Colby Covington Says Kamaru Usman Is Looking For Easier Matchups

Colby Covington isn’t letting up in his verbal shots towards Kamaru Usman.

Fight fans are anticipating the latest word on Usman’s next title defense. While Covington has been promised the next shot at Usman’s Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight gold, “The Nigerian Nightmare” is recovering from hernia surgery. Covington has insisted that Usman should be stripped of the welterweight title if he can’t compete by November.

Colby Covington Says Kamaru Usman Wants Easy Way Out

MMAJunkie.com caught up with Covington. “Chaos” said that he isn’t buying into Usman needing time to recover:

“The thing with him is, he’s trying to find a different injury each week. One week it’s his hernia, the next week it’s his leg, now he’s trying to say some other stuff. He’s literally the Woodley 2.0. He’s taking all of Woodley’s tricks.

Fake injuries, look for easier opponent, look for easier matchups. That’s kind of what he’s doing. He’s hoping another contender arises that he can fight because he knows if he fights me, it’s an automatic ‘L.’ He doesn’t want to lose everything he’s worked for against me. He knows I’m going to embarrass him and expose him in front of the world.”

Covington was last seen in action back in June 2018. He defeated Rafael dos Anjos to capture the interim welterweight title. Covington was stripped of the gold after having a disagreement with UFC officials, but those issues have been put to bed.

Jessica Andrade is set for her first title defense in enemy territory against Weili Zhang. There, the Brazilian will take on the rising star in her home country of China on August 31.

Although Andrade is the champion and the favorite, Michael Bisping believes Zhang is a tough opponent for the champ.

“Weili is 19-1, nine by knockout, seven submissions so 16 of those 19 wins are by stoppage. This woman is a stopper,” he said on his “Believe You Me” podcast. (as transcribed by BJPENN.com). “She stops fights, she wins fight, knockouts, submissions. And I get it’s rare in those weight classes to be a finisher. But she does that and she’s also very good. As you just said, I saw the fight against Tecia Torres. I watched it, I was like ‘wow this girl is sensational. She’s amazing.’ Now she’s on a three-fight win streak [under the UFC banner]. Is that a little early for a UFC title shot? Maybe, but it’s not unheard of. It’s certainly not unheard of and of course, I’d say she has the skills to be in there.”

Not only is she a tough opponent according to Bisping, but he also believes Weili Zhang could very well win the fight. And, if she does, it would not be a surprise.

“Weili may beat her. She’s a fantastic striker, she’s got good footwork, she’s very very capable. And she’s 3-0 in the UFC with a massive record.”

Marlon Vera Unsure If Sean O’Malley Is Cheating After Being Flagged By USADA Again • MMA News

On Friday evening, Sean O’Malley announced on social media that he will not be able to compete at UFC 239. The prospect was coming off of a six-month USADA suspension, but he was flagged again for Ostarine, the same drug he was suspended for.

Although USADA will not suspend him, given they believe it is a Jon Jones situation, his scheduled opponent in Marlon Vera isn’t sure if O’Malley is cheating. All he knows is that he wants to remain on UFC 239.

“(Expletive) him,” Vera said to MMA Junkie. “I don’t know what’s happening. I really don’t know if he’s really cheating or not. Again, (expletive) that guy. He was just an opponent, and I’ll wait for another guy. Hopefully, they can find me a replacement. If they don’t do it, then I cannot stress for stuff I cannot control.”

Meanwhile, “Chito” Vera doesn’t know what or who to believe in this situation. Ultimately, Marlon Vera just wants to fight and doesn’t care if it is a Jon Jones situation or if he truly is cheating.

“(Some) people say, ‘(Expletive) the cheaters.’ (Some) people say, ‘He’s not cheating. It’s a Jon Jones situation.’ Honestly, I really don’t know,” Vera said. “I really don’t understand because technically he tested positive last time, and this time he tested positive because he kept showing the same stuff as last time. I really don’t understand if he’s cheating. I’ll just let the professionals do their job, and I’ll do my job, too – go and fight someone else. …

“It’s the second time he tested positive. It’s weird because a couple of guys from that gym tested positive, too, so I don’t know what’s going on. But I don’t (expletive) care. I’ll keep my mind positive and keep going forward. Acceptance over everything. You’ve got to accept this stuff that is happening. It is what it is. There’s nothing I can do, right?”

The time has finally arrived for BKFC 6.

The event takes place tonight (June 22) inside the Florida State Fairgrounds Expo Hall in Tampa. Headlining the card will be a grudge match between former world boxing champion Paulie Malignaggi and former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight Artem Lobov.

The bad blood between Malignaggi and Lobov is well-documented. In the buildup to their bout, Malignaggi has slapped Lobov and even spat on him. Time will tell who gets bragging rights by the end of the night.

That’s not all as former UFC middleweight Chris Leben will go one-on-one with Dakota Cochrane. Leben was initially set to take on former Bellator fighter Brennan Ward, but Ward was pulled from the card.

Malignaggi Admits to Not Taking Artem Lobov Fight Lightly • MMA News

There has been no shortage of trash talk leading up to tonight’s Bare Knuckle FC 6 main event between Paulie Malignaggi and Artem Lobov. Both sides have said enough to make the bout a bonafide grudge match, and tonight the score is settled inside the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa, Florida.

One recurring theme throughout the trash talk from the Malignaggi side is the wanton display of disrespect for Lobov, sometimes physical in the form of a slap or a wayward loogie, but also in the rhetoric spewed in interviews, such as Malignaggi equating Artem Lobov to a punching bag. But earlier this week, Paulie Malignaggi finally confessed that he is not taking tonight’s main event lightly:

“No, I’m not,” Malignaggi said during a media scrum when asked if he is taking the fight against Artem Lobov lightly. “Because I do think there’s risk factors in this fight. The risk factors are the unknown. There is the unknown for myself. There’s the clinch and whatnot. And I know he’s overplaying the whole clinch because to get me in the clinch, you actually have to get to me, and so to close the gap on me is not that easy, and he knows that.

“Also,
he’s got two left feet, so closing the gap is even harder for a guy like that.
He doesn’t have the greatest footwork. But do I not think about it? Of course I
think about it. But I don’t think about it as much as he’d like me to think
about it, but of course it keeps me from taking a fight lightly because there
is the unknown there.”

What it boils down to is that Malignaggi’s conscious decision to not take the fight lightly is about the unpredictability of entering a new sport and stilll has nothing to do with the opponent:

“So of course, there’s reasons to not take anything lightly in this sport, especially when you haven’t taken part in it. And I haven’t taken part in it. So I’ve been fully focused and I’m fully addressing all the possibilities as well, no matter how much trash talk I talk. It’s not out of respect for Artem. For me, it’s out of respect for the sport.”

So
what will it take for Malignaggi to give Artem Lobov full, individualized
respect? Malignaggi somewhat surprisingly provided an answer:

“If
he goes the distance, I’ll give him credit.”

What
is your final prediction for tonight’s bare knuckle grudge match between Paulie
Malignaggi and Artem Lobov at Bare Knuckle FC 6?

Tyron Woodley Runs Into Henry Cejudo After Criticisms • MMA News

Tyron Woodley Runs Into Henry Cejudo After Criticisms • MMA News

While Henry Cejudo was still fresh off the high of his UFC 238 victory over Marlon Moraes to become the new undisputed UFC bantamweight champion, former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley used his platform on The Hollywood Beatdown to try bringing “Triple C” back down to Earth. Woodley was complimentary of Cejudo’s competitive athletes as an Olympic gold medalist and a two-division UFC champion, but he also felt that he could do without all the “annoying” supplemental material, such as bringing props to faceoffs and all the cringey microphone work. Coincidentally, Woodley ran into Cejudo following these comments and, in his own words, Woodley was sure to “keep the same energy”:

“I said, ‘You know I had to give you some shit, man. I said you need to sit down somewhere…’ He said, ‘No, man, you gotta get on board.’ So it was funny,” Woodley recalled in the latest installment of The Hollywood Beatdown before reiterating the same comments made a week ago:

“He know I was just kidding, but at the end of the day, he a beast. He smashed Moraes; smashed Dillashaw, even though he was taking some additional supplements; two different belts and a gold medal: savage. But the extra stuff? You still gotta sit down.”

Henry Cejudo is an Olympic gold medalist and a man bad enough to take down not one but two UFC championships. Cejudo is even potentially eyeing another championship at 145. So clearly, Cejudo does not discriminate on whom he challenges to a battle of fisticuffs. That said, what would happen if the next time Tyron Woodley doles out criticisms to Cejudo, “Triple C” takes exception and decides to settle it in a streetfight? Woodley was posed this very question, and the former welterweight champion managed to stifle his laughter long enough to offer the following response:

“That
would be one of the worst mistakes he ever made.”

If you were Henry Cejudo, would you take Tyron Woodley’s advice and change your persona?

Bellator London & Bellator 223 Predictions • MMA News

Bellator returns to SSE Arena in London, England this Saturday with a packed card full of 19 bouts. Below are my predictions for the three bouts scheduled for Bellator London and the five bouts scheduled for Bellator 223 (see broadcast plans here).

Bellator London

Middleweight title bout: Gegard Mousasi vs. Rafael Lovato Jr.

Mousasi (45-6-2) is 3-0 in Bellator and is riding an eight-fight win streak overall that includes notable wins over Rory MacDonald, Chris Weidman and Thiago Santos. He is one of the best fighters in the world and might be a champion in the UFC right now had he stayed there. Lovato Jr. (9-0) is 5-0 in the UFC and perfect in his MMA career with all but one of his wins coming by stoppage. Although Lovato Jr.’s submission game is elite, he is taking a massive step up in competition here against a stud in Mousasi. I just can’t see him pulling off the upset in this one against a fighter as well-rounded and as dangerous as Mousasi is. I like Mousasi to defend the middleweight title in this fight, and considering that it’s scheduled for five rounds, look for him to win by stoppage within the 25 minutes.

Pick: Gegard Mousasi

Middleweight bout: Melvin Manhoef vs. Kent Kauppinen

Manhoef (30-14-1, 2 NC) is 2-3, 1 NC in Bellator and at age 43 appears to be on a significant decline. Once known for his ferocious knockout power, Manhoef hasn’t won a fight since 2015 and is coming off of a brutal knockout loss to Rafael Carvalho in his last fight. His chin just isn’t there anymore. Kauppinen (11-4) is 1-1 in Bellator and is coming off of a brutal KO win over Alessio Sakara. This fight has upset alert written all over it. Although Kauppinen isn’t a big name, he has serious KO power and Manhoef’s chin is gone. The pick is Kauppinen by knockout.

Pick: Kent Kauppinen

Catchweight (160lbs) bout: Aaron Chalmers vs. Fred Freeman

Chalmers (4-1) is 1-1 in Bellator including a surprising submission loss to Corey Browning in his last fight. Freeman (1-1) lost to Kevin Ferguson Jr. in his own Bellator debut. Although I don’t think much of Chalmers, I expect him to get the win here, and he likely does so by submission.

Pick: Aaron Chalmers

Bellator 223

Welterweight bout: Paul Daley vs. Erick Silva

Daley (40-17-2) is 6-4 overall in Bellator though he is coming off of back-to-back decision losses to Jon Fitch and Michael Page. He’s one of the all-time greatest knockout artists in welterweight division history, but at age 36 is no longer an elite fighter. Silva (20-10, 1 NC) is 0-1 in Bellator and is a shell of the former great fighter he once was. Now 34, Silva is much older in fight years and his chin is gone. I like Daley in this fight a lot, and I think he wins it by brutal KO.

Pick: Paul Daley

Catchweight (140lbs) bout: James Gallagher vs. Jeremiah Labiano

Gallagher (8-1) is just 22-years-old and has racked up a 5-1 record in Bellator. Aside from a surprising KO loss to Ricky Bandejas, the Irishman has really excelled in Bellator and the majority of his wins have come by stoppage. Labiano (12-6) is 32-years-old and has a 3-2 record in Bellator. The American is coming off of a TKO win over Justin Smitley to bounce back from a decision loss to Noad Lahat. Although Labiano has more experience, Bellator clearly wants Gallagher to win this fight and I expect him do so in impressive fashion. Gallagher by TKO or submission seems likely here.

Pick: James Gallagher

Middleweight bout: Fabian Edwards vs. Jonathan Bosuku

Edwards (7-0) is the brother of star UFC welterweight Leon Edwards and is already 3-0 in Bellator which includes a highlight-reel upkick KO in his last fight. At just 26-years-old the Brit looks like a future star for the promotion. Bosuku (7-4) is making his Bellator debut after five straight wins on the regional scene. Just 23, the France product looks solid but he’s getting a difficult matchup here against a stud in Edwards. Look for Edwards to finish this fight.

Pick: Fabian Edwards

Middleweight bout: Mike Shipman vs. Costello van Steenis

Shipman (13-1) is a perfect 4-0 in Bellator and overall has won 13 straight fights since losing his MMA debut back in 2013. Van Steenis (11-1) is 3-0 in Bellator and is riding a five-fight win streak overall, including a notable split decision nod over Chris Honeycutt his last time out. This is a solid fight here between two top prospects, but I have to go with Shipman here, and he probably gets a finish.

Pick: Mike Shipman

Middleweight bout: Charlie Ward vs. Justin Moore

Ward (6-3) has won three straight fights in Bellator by first-round KO to bounce back after getting released by the UFC in 2017. Moore (7-2) is making his Bellator debut and is coming off of a submission loss, so you can tell who the Bellator matchmakers want to win here. Although I don’t completely trust Ward, I have to pick him here to get another knockout win.

Pick: Charlie Ward

Who are your picks for Bellator London and Bellator 223?

Moicano vs. Zombie Predictions • MMA News

Moicano vs. Zombie Predictions • MMA News

UFC Greenville Confidence Level Scale

1: Gun to the head, forced to
choose

2: Minimum confidence

3-4: A small level of confidence

5-6: Significantly clearer path to
victory for one person.

7 – Strong confidence.

8-9: Extremely confident.

10 – Bulletproof Confidence, barring freak occurrence

Alessio Di Chrico (12-2) vs. Kevin
Holland (14-4)

Alessio Di Chirico Keys to Victory:

  • Conserve Power for Opportune Moments
  • Brawl in Spurts
  • Maintain Octagon Control

Kevin Holland Keys to Victory:

  • Pick up Pace in Second Half of Fight
  • Stay at Range
  • Use Ground Game as Plan B or C

The main card of UFC Greenville kicks off with a middleweight bout that has a very high probability of being a big win for fans who like action and unpredictability. You never know what to expect from Kevin Holland from one moment to the next, which can make life more difficult for himself than it needs to be, but is also what has earned him this spot on the main card against another entertaining fighter in Alessio Di Chirico.

Alessio Di Chirico has a clear power advantage over Kevin Holland, and that could be the difference in a fight that will likely be fought mostly, if not exclusively, on the feet. Kevin Holland has a strong ground game but prefers to bang and even requested an opponent with the same mindset for his next fight, and that’s precisely what he will get in Alessio Di Chirico.

Di Chirico has five wins by knockout, but only one of them came in his five-fight UFC career, and that was by way of a Thai clinch knee to the dome of Oluwale Bamgbose. For Di Chirico to win this fight against Kevin Holland, he needs to engage in a brawl but conserve his energy. Kevin Holland is very tough and durable, so walking the balance between all-out brawling and picking his shots will be huge for Di Chirico. He needs to also make it a point of controlling the cage more, which, as the better pressure fighter, he is more likely to do. That could also sway the judges if he ends up in a tight decision, which both fighters were in their last outings.

Kevin Holland should have the cardio advantage and carry more vigor into the second and especially the third round if the fight makes it there. Holland will also be the craftier of the two, and to win this fight, he should oscillate between being a counter striker and a calculated risk taker. Holland’s main path to victory is actually to take the fight to the ground, but Holland loves to bang so that likely won’t happen. Fortunately for him, he is incredibly durable and will have a seven-inch reach advantage, so a standup fight should still play in his favor, even if he has some sticky moments that could have been avoided.

Prediction: Kevin Holland

Confidence Level: 6/10

Andrea Lee (10-2) vs. Montana De La
Rosa (10-4)

Andrea Lee Keys to Victory:

  • Do Not Let Takedown Anticipation Freeze Standup
  • Use All Available Limbs
  • Rehearse Timed Knee Attack to Counter Takedown Attempts
  • Follow the Calvillo Blueprint

Montana De La Rosa Keys to Victory:

  • Wrestle at All Costs (Sans
    Reckless/Desperate Entries)
  • Prioritize Submission Over Ground
    Damage
  • Chase Submission as if Working Off a
    Timer
  • Avoid Desperation Takedowns

Both of these women are undefeated
in the UFC, with a combined promotional record of 5-0. Lee comes in as the #10-ranked
flyweight, with Rosa at #11. A win for either woman could very well place the
fighter only a victory or two away from a title shot in the young flyweight
division. So who will get the W?

Montana De La Rosa’s game plan is no secret. She is going to look to use her All-American Wrestling, but she won’t stop there. She will also look to use her submission skills that speak louder than a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Eight of De La Rosa’s 10 UFC victories have come by way of submission, and she will need to make it a 9th here because Andrea Lee could very well be the one to take her to deep waters if she doesn’t.

Andrea Lee only has one submission loss, and that came by rear-naked choke. De La Rosa is very dangerous when she has your back and has a good rear-naked choke. She has three RNC victories and threatens well with it, even if she does not complete the choke. De La Rosa does pose a true submission threat on the mat in this fight and should actively look for the finish. She just needs to act fast if she gets Lee down or catch Lee slipping in a transition by outscrambling her.

If you watch Montana De La Rosa’s most recent loss to Cynthia Calvillo, I can foresee a similar outcome to Andrea Lee. Cynthia Calvillo was able to stop the takedowns, tire De La Rosa out, outstrike her, and by the time the fight passed the halfway point, Calvillo simply outgrinded her and outfought her in all aspects. Calvillo was the more well-rounded and gritty mixed martial artist, and it showed. Andrea Lee may not be as skilled as Calvillo on the mat, but I do expect her takedown defense to hold up in similar fashion and for her to be able to get back up if De La Rosa takes her down.

Andrea Lee is very good at returning to her feet and is by far the better striker in this fight. I’m expecting some desperation takedowns from De La Rosa, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Lee times a knee during one of De La Rosa’s entries, as Lee is an eight-limb fighter who will throw everything at her opponent, especially if she knows what’s coming.  I’m expecting De La Rosa to freeze after being unsuccessful in having a mat battle and for Andrea Lee to tee off and maybe even get the finish.

Prediction: Andrea Lee

Confidence Level: 6/10

Bryan Barberena (14-6) vs. Randy
Brown (10-3)

Bryan Barberena Keys to Victory:

  • Do Not Stop Pressuring
  • Brawl
  • Close the Distance
  • Be Open to Morphing to
    Grappling-Dominant Strategy

Randy Brown Keys to Victory:

  • Distance Control
  • Add Knees and Elbows to Kickboxing
    Attack
  • Sacrifice Power for Accuracy to Save
    Energy
  • Mange Cardio in General
  • Look for D’Arce or Guillotine Choke
    if Barberena Grapples

It is paramount that Bryan Barberana closes the distance if he is to win this fight. Whether that means grinding out a decision with a grappling-heavy game plan or outbrawling the more technically sound striker, he is only able to do either if he closes that distance. Barberena will need to use some relentless pressure and not be deterred when Randy Brown lands. You can file that in the “easier said than done” cabinet, but if someone can take that advice without flinching, it’s Barberena.

Barberena was stopped in his last fight against Vicente Luque, but it took an incredible effort by Luque to put Barberena away, and it didn’t come until the final 10 seconds of the fight and 163 strikes later. Barberena was on his way to victory, though, by doing what he should do against Randy Brown when the fight is standing: pressure and brawl. Barberena needs to make it an ugly fight and if Brown’s distance control and length advantage makes that too difficult, Barberena needs to take off his crowd-pleaser hat to try to earn a victory through grappling.

Randy Brown will enter the fight with a 5 ½ reach advantage and as the crisper and superior technical striker as well being the better athlete. Distance control will be the story in this fight, and not putting everything behind the jab to ensure that he will have enough in the tank to continue to stay sharp and crisp for all 15 minutes is what Brown will need to do here. Barberena is very tough, so Brown should not exert too much energy chasing a big KO. Brown should look to not limit himself to his hands but also throw some lunging knees, kicks wherever there are openings, in addition to those long jabs to the shorter Barberena. Brown also is not bad in standing grappling exchanges, and with his long limbs a choke is a definite possibility. But once Barberena gets him on his back, that would be a different story.

Ultimately, I do not believe Brown’s movement will be enough to keep Barberena’s pressure from making the difference in the fight. As fights go on, Barberena usually gets better or stays roughly the same, but Brown fades. I also do not believe Brown will be able to put away the durable Barberena. I’m not sure how exactly it gets done, but I do believe that pressure, durability, toughness, cardio, experience, and a better overall game plan execution will get Bryan Barberena the W one way or another.

Renato Moicano (13-2-1) vs. Chan Sung Jung (14-5)

Renato Moicano Keys to Victory

  • Heavy Movement
  • Leg Kicks
  • Careful Strike Selections

Korean Zombie Keys to Victory

  • Bait & Counterstrike
  • Power Shots to Head and Torso
  • Respond with Bursts when Moicano
    Throws Isolated Strikes

The most important question in this fight
for me is: What will be Renato Moicano’s game plan be? Because when Renato
Moicano fights intelligently and sticks to an effective game plan, he is
incredibly difficult to beat and is not the type of fighter whom you can just
march forward and knock out.

Sometimes predictions are based on
what you assume a fighter will do. And without knowing what the fight will look
like, I am going to assume that Renato Moicano will not stand right in front of
The Korean Zombie and will fight similarly to how he did against Jeremy
Stephens: high on movement, fighting off the back foot, and counterstriking.
Moicano should look to implement leg kicks in the fight to score points and
generally not get lured into a slugout with Zombie.

Korean Zombie should look to bait
Renato Moicano throughout the fight and become more of a counterstriker than
usual. Moicano usually doesn’t throw in combinations, so following a jab, Zombie
should look to counter with power shots, including to the body. Zombie will
have a power advantage, and if the fight does not go the distance, it will
likely be because of a Zombie KO. Posturing, baiting, and countering with power
is Zombie’s best chance at victory, but it is not his only one. He is more than
capable of fighting his usual fight and outstriking Moicano, especially if
Moicano does not implement a high-movement game plan.

This is a very tough one to call. I
believe Moicano will win more minutes of the fight than The Korean Zombie,
perhaps by implementing the type of strategy described for him: high movement,
implementing leg kicks, fighting off the back foot. He is also capable of
beating Zombie by standing with him conventionally, even though that would not
be his leading path to victory. However, I do believe that Zombie is more
likely to get the finish, particularly in the later rounds or potentially even
win a very narrow decision despite Moicano perhaps getting the better of the
statistics.
